Finn is sitting outside, back to a tree and sketchbook in his lap.

He's not sketching, though. In fact, he seems to be on the verge of falling asleep.

It's quiet out here, and there are no walls closing in.


(And if the chirping of the birds in the tree or on the lake are a distraction, well--they're a distraction he grown used to.)

It's funny, how little time Finn seems to be able to manage 'relaxed' right now.

He tenses, again, at the question. It's been a long time since Henry's seen him--he's (better? worse? not all right) different, now. Henry deserves his honesty, or Finn thinks he still does though he's not as willing to give it as before, but he's not entirely sure what to say.

"No," softly. "Coping. Better than I was after you left."

He bends to pick up his sketchbook carefully. "Is that what you wanted to know?"

Wellard winces a bit, at that, looking down at his hands. "Somewhat." He takes a deep breath.

"I'm sorry about that, Finn."

"Don't be," harsh, almost. "You were taken--you did not leave on your own power, or by your own will."

Then, quietly. "It happens, Henry. I--it happens."

"You'd almost think it was." Wellard mutters, reaching up to rub the bridge of his nose. "Nevermind what happened, and that I certainly didn't plan to end up there and-"

He takes a deep breath, and drops his hand.

He just gets a confused look.

After a long pause, he adds. "I--do not understand, Henry."

"... Hannah was worried, and upset." Wellard shrugs a bit, then sighs. "And... Its hard for someone to worry, when they can't really tell people, their friends and family in their world, why they're worried. Specially when people don't... go off to sea and aren't heard from for months, normally, in their world."

Finn does not say a lot of things he'd like to say.

(Like, Hannah doesn't know the meaning of upset. But less because he doesn't want to say them or because he thinks they aren't true and more because Henry wouldn't want to hear them.)

"She knew you didn't mean to go," Finn tells him, with a confused sort of bitterness. "Why would she imply otherwise?"

He blinks, and shakes his head. "That's not... not quite it." Wellard sighs, and rubs the bridge of his nose again.

"Its complicated, and... and I still need to think on it myself. Though I wanted to find you first, and... and see how you were doing, and if you were alright, and let you know I was back and alright myself."

"Thank you," he says quietly, with a suddenly uncomfortable shrug. "I--"

He bites his lip.

Entirely hesistant, and stumbling, "You're not leaving again, are you?"

Wellard shakes his head again, quickly. "I'm certainly not planning any more surprise trips, Finn. Believe me." He takes a deep breath, then lets it out in a faint laugh.

"Any place else any time soon should be something nice, like a holiday, and you'd be going along as well."

Finn gives him a quick, hesistant smile, which disappears fast enough. "I'll keep an eye out."

And, if this were anywhere else, he'd find a way to warn the others of the Wild off. But the Hunt has never had reason to do so before, because who would contradict them?

And it was never to protect, only that there was game the Hunt wanted for its own.

"Shouldn't need to worry, though." He smiles wryly. "Davy Jones is dead, and I do my best to not get people angry at me- at least those that can do things like that."

Well, at least Wellard tries. As to how well this works in actual practice...

Finn nods, and Henry...doesn't get a disbelieving look. He might've, in the past, but as for now...well, Finn can't yet disbelieve him casually enough for teasing.

If Henry's alive now, it just means he can die. And he is normal enough for that to be a danger.
